La espera prolongada es un libro inspirado en la exposición fotográfica del mismo nombre organizada por El Colegio de la Frontera Norte y convocada en el marco del Día Nacional del Refugiado el 20 de junio de 2021. La muestra incluyó el trabajo de 11 fotógrafas y fotógrafos de la región fronteriza Tijuana-San Diego, quienes capturan los rostros de personas migrantes, sus semblantes entre la angustia y la esperanza en la cotidianidad, mientras aguardan la respuesta a su solicitud de asilo. Las imágenes ofrecen testimonios que nos aproximan a su intimidad, dejando entrever lo difícil de su camino y lo lento del proceso, pero siempre con la confianza de conseguir su propósito, mostrando cómo pese a las dificultades e incertidumbres que enfrentan miles de migrantes, aún hay lugar para las sonrisas, la solidaridad, la ternura y el amor.
Además del legado fotográfico, se incluye una introducción y capítulos sobre los cambios recientes del fenómeno migratorios en México, así como el vínculo entre el trabajo académico y la fotografía. En el apartado final, las y los fotógrafos comparten sus reflexiones en torno a su labor como fotoperiodistas frente a la búsqueda de asilo y refugio de tantas personas. Esperamos que esta obra contribuya a la construcción de una percepción más sensible y humana de la migración en esta región fronteriza.
